Dr. LeDonna White York - Candidate for Omaha Public School Board
(District 1)
Dr. York is a Native Omahan. She is aspiring to serve District 1 as its next OPS School Board Member. LeDonna has been a resident of the North Omaha area all of her life and has had the opportunity to educate many children that are residents of District 1. She is still in contact with many of her former students today. Dr. York is a passionate educator directly connected to the public schools. Dr. York is a former student of the Omaha Public Schools and has served as a Classroom Teacher, Assistant Principal, and currently as a Principal in the Omaha Public Schools. Her entire professional career has been in urban schools. Dr. York possesses a passion and expertise for educating diverse groups of students.
Dr. York plans to first and foremost look out for students. Education is not a line item on the school board’s agenda—it is the only item. If educational reform is going to be effective, students’ achievement must be the epitome of the day to day decisions of the board. Classroom teachers are the “heart and soul” of this district. School building leadership, district leadership and school board leadership must be dedicated, focused and passionate about the growth of all children, which will result in the growth of a society.
As a school board member she plans to be an active voice in policy decisions, generating funding, and programs. Dr. York will hold herself personally accountable for the performance of the schools in District 1.
